With the pandemic hopefully nearing an end, we’ve been anxious to start recruiting paddlers again and build up our club. In the meantime, we’ve been doing fundraising, equipment repairs and improvements, and gratefully acquiring new equipment from donations. Russell Adams just donated nine brand new G-Power kayak paddles with covers and a Nelo C1 Vintage III that was very, very lightly used! This is a huge donation — we have valued this equipment at close to $6,000! Many thanks to Russell! Coupled with the donations we received last winter and summer, the club now has more than enough sprint singles for both canoe and kayak paddlers, and plenty of kayak paddles. We are still in need of some better canoe paddles, and hope to get a C2 with a modern design, too.
With a large fundraiser from Judy Terrell, and a few other smaller donations coming in, the club has a healthy bank account right now and hopes to buy some adjustable canoe paddles from QuickBlade Paddles soon.
In the next week or two, we will publish dates and plans for some Open House events on weekends in June – likely every weekend in June – where we provide introduction level paddling instruction to anyone interested in giving the sport a try. Hopefully by the end of the summer we will have a handful of new paddlers to join the small regular crew we currently have coming down to paddle.
In the meantime, please stay healthy and help us end this pandemic!
