Word was shared today from the American Canoe Association that this year’s National Championships are canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While disappointing news, and especially so for anyone who might be aging out of a level this year, it is understandable.
Recruitment and our “open house” sessions will resume when it is safe to do so. Anyone interested in paddling with our club is still welcome to contact us, too!
Stay healthy and safe everyone. The full announcement from the ACA is below:
The ACA regretfully announces the cancellation of the 2020 Sprint National Championships. Though we had hoped this would not be the outcome, after receiving input from numerous stakeholders and based on United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and CDC guidelines, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this event. ACA has always prized safety as one of our most valued tenets, and we simply do not want to put any of our athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers or community members at risk.
Please join me in sincerely and enthusiastically thanking the Sprint Events Committee (especially Jackie Nipper, Tamara Adelberg, Kayla Smith and Suzanne Britt) for their professionalism in planning the 2020 Nationals. They have created a comprehensive roadmap for planning future Nationals as well.
We would also like to thank our new friends at the Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau (the LOC) for being supportive, flexible partners in this venture. We are sorry that we will not be able to enjoy their hospitality in 2020.
As we begin to ‘see a light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel’, we look forward with optimism to being together again as soon as possible.
