Summer Update 2025

The club has had a very busy summer! Here are some of the highlights – While we also purchased new equipment, we sold a great deal of our older inventory this summer. We found new homes for two surfskis, five kayaks, and one canoe, plus a few of our oldest paddles. This older equipment had largely gone unused – some items for several years – and all of it will now get regular use…

Spring Update 2025

Spring is the start of our racing season in sprint canoe and kayak, and our paddlers are taking part in races that they can find in California. We had a U16 athlete take part in the Junior World Team Trials in Chula Vista in April, competing against athletes two to four years older knowing this would be a learning opportunity with little hope of making the team at this early stage in his career.

Summer and Nationals 2024 Update

We had a very successful trip to Lake Lanier for Nationals at the first week of August, with the club earning roughly 18 medals in all. Gus Peterson, a Masters athlete and Ventura club member from the 70s and 80s, came to race with us traveling from San Jose by himself and was our high point winner with 4 gold medals, 2 silvers, and a bronze to his credit. Workouts Winters are viewed as the “off season” for many in the sprint paddling world, largely because local water areas may actually be frozen over. Summer 2019 Update – Nationals, Equipment, and Harbor Plans

It has been a busy summer for the Ventura Canoe & Kayak Club – and a productive one. The foundation of the club is being put together and we should begin recruitment of paddlers in the coming months.
